Grandma's Update

Emma went to the doctors today and finally passed her birth weight! She now weighs 7 # 8 oz.! Amy and I were very happy! It was especially good news since Amy has been very sick for the last couple of days and has been worried about Emma getting enough to eat! We were very happy that she gained weight--the doctor wanted to see her gain more.

Everything the doctor checked out on Emma was just great today! She said that her color looked good (not jaundiced!) and she was at all the milestones. We are so happy that she is doing so well.

Amy is not doing so well, however! Her doctor suspects some kind of infection. She is just waiting for the lab results to get back. In the meantime, she is restricted to what she can eat, so right now she is hungry and weak! She is trying hard to eat high calorie food, but it can't be too solid (she has mainly had gatorade, water, popcicles (sp?), yogurt). Today the pediatrician said now was the time to have ice cream! We hope tomorrow brings some good news from the doctor! Or at least a cure!

Two-Week Old (plus 3 days) Doctor Visit

Mom put a cute curl in Emma's hair and glued a

pretty bow on for the visit to the doctor!

Emma really just wanted to sleep, NOT to have
Grandma keep taking her picture!
Here is a VERY RARE moment for Emma!!
She is such a good baby, she hardly ever cries

(except when she has her clothes taken off

to change a diaper, when she is hungry and
she has waited long enough for Mom, etc.).

We just had to document this! And then here she is--"O-o-o-o-o, did I do

something wrong?!"

What a beautiful girl!
After Amy and I gave Emma her little

"spit bath" she just wanted to be awake!
She was wide-eyed and just wanted to look around!

Life is so interesting when you are two weeks old

and everything is brand new!
You would think that she would HATE having a bath,

but no way! She loves it! She doesn't fuss a bit!

Just hanging out and stretching! She has grown a half an inch!

Daddy is great with Emma! Amy says that once

he gets throughthe door after work he takes over with Emma!

Changes all her diapers, participates in the feedings

during the night (at least Amy lets him change

Emma's diapers then!), and loves and snuggles her! He is

a great dad!

10-day Old Emma--Update

10-days old! Its hard to believe! We are having such a great time with Emma. Grandma has spent a lot of time helping Amy and Emma and it is great!

Emma is doing well. She has had a little problem with elevated Bilirubin levels, but the doctor said today that some breast-fed babies just seem to hold on to more of the Bilirubin than others. I didn't know, but the liver does not function at the 100% level in new borns. And its the liver that is supposed to take the Bilirubin out of the blood. So eventually the liver will kick into to high power and the Bilirubin levels will go down. In the meantime, just watch her!

Other than that, she is doing fine. Although Emma has seen the pediatrician 3 times since she left the hospital, next Thursday will be the official 2-week checkup! But every time the doctor sees her, she says she is doing great (other than the bili level).

Amy and Rodger are getting their new house in order! A slow process with a new baby, but they are enjoying their new "digs". They have a little more room to move around in. And it was great to have our whole family (all five of us!) be able to sit around the dining table for dinner, have a leaf in the table, and no one squished into the corner! We loved being at Amy and Rodger's old house for dinner, we just chuckled everytime we did because it was cramped quarters! Now we are looking forward to more dinners with more family members.

Keep checking back for more pictures and news. And don't forget Amy's blog at blogginbrowns.blogspot.com!

Another Fun Day with Emma!

She's cute, but not always happy!
Sometimes it looks like she is sending hand signals
to some unknown person!
Being a happy girl!
She decided she WAS NOT a happy girl afterall!
A happy moment with Mom!
Just because she is so cute!
Posing for Grandma!
Thinking its time to go to sleep!
But still awake! Maybe she could sleep if Grandma
would quit taking pictures of her!
"Please, dear Heavenly Father. Let Grandma stop taking
so many pictures!"
If you look really closely at the toes right at the top
of this picture you can see how the toe next to the
little toe is over and under the next toe.
Amy believes that is the toe she had hooked
onto Amy's rib so she wouldn't have to come out
of the womb! And then notice the "slices" on her heel.
Every time they want to "poke" her heel for
another blood draw, Amy says they should
just tell it like it is and call it a slice!
A just fed baby.
Mom and baby happy after feeding!
Just enjoying the moment!
"A picture is worth a thousand words!"
This is rare that Emma has her legs straightened out!
She doesn't like to be uncovered! I think she is trying
to tell us to get get the diaper changed and quit taking my picture!
But Grandma and Momma just couldn't resist how cute she
was being so we just took another angle!

She is sooooo cute! And if I had those skinny legs
I would show them off myself!
Had to get some pictures of Emma's skinny legs!
Emma sleeping in her Pack 'n Play bassinett right next
to Mom and Dad's bed.
So sweet and innocent when she is asleep!
One minute she is smiling, the next she is crying!
But she is always so dang cute!
Emma doesn't like to wake up to eat, so we
decided to try about anything. Grma decided
to "mess" with her and "trim" her fingernails!
This is the "new" way to trim their tiny fingernails--
with an emery board! It doesn't work well at all!
This way is supposed to keep you from cutting
the baby's skin with the nail scissors or clippers.
